Role Summary
We are seeking a Senior Data Platform Engineer for our enterprise client. This is a senior, hands-on role focused on modernizing and strengthening a data platform built around Snowflake, AWS, dbt Core, GitHub and Terraform.
You will establish reusable platform capabilities, engineering standards and automation that help data engineering teams deliver reliably and efficiently. The role combines deep data-platform expertise with software engineering, DevOps, security and operational reliability. You will help shape technical decisions while building and implementing the patterns needed to support production delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and evolve core data platform capabilities across Snowflake and AWS, creating reusable architecture, engineering standards and platform patterns.
- Establish and mature dbt Core standards for project structure, data modelling, testing, documentation and deployment.
- Build and enhance GitHub-based CI/CD pipelines and repeatable deployment processes across development, UAT and production environments.
- Develop and maintain infrastructure as code using Terraform, including Snowflake roles, grants, integrations and platform resources.
- Strengthen role-based access control, IAM, PII protection, masking and secure data-access patterns.
- Improve production observability, monitoring, data quality, performance, recovery and operational reliability, including standardized metrics, logs and tracing.
- Evaluate and implement scalable batch, streaming, CDC and orchestration patterns, considering Snowflake-native capabilities and Airflow where appropriate.
- Partner with Architecture, Security, Data Engineering, Analytics and Data Science to shape future capabilities and deliver practical platform improvements.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership through design and code reviews, mentoring, documentation and clear operational standards.
What We’re Looking For – Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of engineering experience, including at least 5 years in data engineering or data platform engineering.
- Strong hands-on Snowflake experience and expert-level SQL.
- Strong experience with dbt Core, modern data modelling and ELT patterns, including testing, documentation and deployment practices.
- Strong AWS cloud engineering experience.
- Strong Terraform experience, including applying infrastructure-as-code practices to data platform resources and access controls.
- Strong experience with Git/GitHub, CI/CD and controlled deployments across multiple environments.
- Strong understanding of RBAC, IAM, PII protection, masking and data governance.
- Experience with production monitoring, observability, performance improvement, recovery and operational reliability.
- Experience with OpenTelemetry or similar observability frameworks for standardized metrics, logs and distributed tracing across data pipelines and platform services.
- Strong Python or comparable programming skills, with experience in modern batch, streaming, CDC and orchestration patterns.
- Demonstrated technical leadership, including establishing engineering standards, reviewing designs and code, and mentoring engineers.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently as a senior, hands-on contributor.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Airflow and Datadog, or comparable orchestration and observability platforms.
- Experience with Matillion-to-dbt migrations or similar data platform modernization initiatives.
- Experience with data lineage, metadata management, cataloguing and governed data-access patterns.
- Experience with AI-assisted engineering tools such as Claude Code, Cursor or Snowflake Cortex/CoCo.
